When Pantone made Radiant Orchid their shade of the year, the beauty world responded by making plums, lavenders, purples and violets must-have shades in any beauty kit. To help you wear this terrific shade on your big day, we chatted with Grace Lee, lead makeup artist for Maybelline New York/Canada for her tips and tricks on all things orchid.
Tips from Grace Lee Lead makeup artist, Maybelline New York/Canada
On Lips
“A beautiful lip is my favourite way to wear violet,” says Grace. “I suggest keeping everything else on the face pretty bare and natural to make sure the lip is the focal point.” When using bright shades on lips, Grace recommends making sure your lips are well prepped before applying colour. “Exfoliating and moisturizing lips is essential,” she says.
On Eyes
With so many hues in the orchid family, purples and plums on eyes are a great way to make this new look fit your personal style. During the day, Grace suggests applying purples on your eyes with a bigger, fluffier brush so the colour has a sheer finish. At night, amplify the shade by mixing and matching. For instance, try applying a shade of purple on the lower eyelid and blend a darker plum in the crease. Or try violet eyeliner on the upper eyelid for a pop of colour.
